Each year, Kalamazoo in Bloom, together with the Kalamazoo Garden Council, recognizes a home or business garden or landscape that inspires their neighborhoods to improve their overall appearance. Recipients of the Inspiring Garden Award are selected by a committee of garden club members, and are presented with a front yard sign.
This year’s winner was Marilyn and Jack Gayda. Their Kalamazoo garden was discovered during the Landscapers Garden Club’s biennial garden walk in July. Jack and Marilyn’s flower bedecked yard was suggested for the tour by a neighbor who had appreciated the lovely view from her nearby home. Marilyn was truly surprised by the attention to their garden, an effort simply done out of love for nature’s beauty.
