News from the 2012 Pumpkin Soiree
Once again we held the annual Great Pumpkin Soiree at the KIA on November 7. We had an explosion in our attendance compared to last year and we were able to raise nearly $5,000 through admission, drink, and silent auction sales, to help with the purchase of flowers next spring.
We were treated to some of the most delicious treats that our participants made with pumpkin. Special thanks to: Bold, Bravo, Casa Bolero, Chartwells @ KPS Food Service, Fandango, Full City Café, and Gull Lake Country Club.
We also thank our silent auction contributors: Aliisa Lahti (Rhubarb Pi jewelry), The Ample Pantry, Jacque Jennings Carter (Asea), Bach Festival Society of Kalamazoo, Discover Kalamazoo, The Elixir House, Fontana Chamber Arts, Forever Framing, Good Hospitality Services (Fairfield Inn, Hampton Inn, Towne Place Hotel), Heilman's, Kalamazoo Civic Theatre, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Kalamazoo Nature Center, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Ruth Cekola (kikaPaprika), Millennium Restaurant Group, People's Food Co-op, The Rusty Rabbit, Sinsational Cookies, Brenda Rossen and Emily Diederich (Sterling Wishes jewelry), Stulberg Competition, Angie Jackson (Traveling Elixir Fixer), Women's Lifestyle Magazine.
Thank you also to judges Judy Sarkozy of Sarkozy Bakery, and Charlie Brown of Barner Farms, who also donated pumpkins along with Gene the Pumpkin Man, and all the volunteers!
Winners were: Chef Ophelia Johnson of Casa Bolero (Most Creative Use of Pumpkin), and Chef Clayton Holt of Gull Lake Country Club (People’s Choice and Overall Winner).
